Sir Christopher Nicholson Johnston, Lord Sands FRSE (1857–1934) was Unionist Party (Scotland) MP for Edinburgh and St Andrews Universities (UK Parliament constituency) between two by-elections in 1916 and 1917. ==Life== see〔http://www.royalsoced.org.uk/cms/files/fellows/biographical_index/fells_indexp1.pdf〕 He was born on 18 October 1857 at Mansion House of Sands in Fife, the son of James Johnston of Sands and Margaret Nicholson. He was educated at Madras College in St Andrews, Fife. After training as a lawyer he made rapid progress in the profession: Advocate (1880); Advocate Depute (1892); Sheriff (1899-1916); Kings Council (10 June 1902). He was a Procurator for the Church of Scotland (1907-1918). In 1898 he married Agnes Warren Dunn. He stood down as an MP when he became a Senator of the College of Justice, a senior judicial post. He was knighted in 1917. In 1925 he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, serving as their Vice-President 1932-4.
